Who it's for
What is TCS?
TCS (Tax Collected at Source) under section 206C is tax that a seller collects from the buyer on the sale of specified goods and on certain receipts — for example scrap, minerals, timber, motor vehicles above a threshold, overseas tour packages and remittances under the LRS. The collected tax is deposited with the government against the buyer’s PAN and can be claimed by them.
Who has to collect TCS?
Specified sellers and collectors collect TCS at the prescribed rate at the time of sale or receipt. As with TDS, a TAN is required to deposit TCS and file returns.
TCS payment, returns & certificate
- TCS is deposited using Challan ITNS-281
- Form 27EQ — quarterly TCS return
- Form 27D — TCS certificate issued to the buyer
For the current statutory due dates, see our compliance calendar and confirm on the official portal.
